Sika-hjort

The Sika Deer is a medium-sized deer species native to East Asia, including Japan, Taiwan, and parts of China and Russia. It is recognized for its spotted coat, which can vary from reddish-brown in summer to darker shades in winter, and its distinctive antlers, typically with multiple points on mature males. Sika Deer are highly agile and alert, making them both fascinating and challenging for hunters and wildlife enthusiasts alike.

Sika Deer are adaptable and can thrive in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, grasslands, and mountainous regions. They are mostly crepuscular, being most active during dawn and dusk, and are known for their complex vocalizations, including whistles, barks, and screams during the rutting season.

Mature stags can display impressive antler growth, and males engage in dramatic displays and battles during the breeding season. Females usually give birth to a single fawn after a gestation of around 7 months. The species has been introduced to many countries worldwide, including Ireland, the United Kingdom, and parts of Europe and North America, often in managed populations.

Sika Deer are valued both for their ecological role and as a game species, offering an exciting hunting experience due to their alertness and challenging terrain preferences.
